Studies have shown that women want different types of men at different stages of life, and at different times of the month. Younger (18-27) lean toward the good-looking alpha or Daddy types, while preferring more beta qualities as they mature.
Also, women’s reproductive cycle has them preferring beta characteristics about 3/4 of the time and alpha characteristics during ovulation. It seems to fit the theory that women tend to want to reproduce with the seemingly high-testosterone male but prefer the comfort and reliability of the beta provider.
Of course that’s not to say they don’t want to reproduce with betas; it’s that it shifts based on her cycle. A good man can learn to be both :)
